Watergate Salad was a staple in our family growing up. It was served at EVERY family get-together and celebration. I loved it growing up, and I love it now as an adult.
However, traditional Watergate Salad is full of sugar. Between the Cool Whip, instant pudding, marshmallows, and pineapple, it’s almost too sweet—way too sweet. So when I decided to start cutting sugar, I looked for ways to keep my favorite treat but with less sugar.
When searching for keto and sugar-free pudding desserts, I noticed that people were mixing sugar-free pudding with heavy whipping cream. I thought to myself, “I wonder if this could work for Watergate Salad,” and it did! The result is the Watergate Salad I loved as a child, with less sugar. It’s the perfect sweet treat!

Watergate Salad Ingredients
- One box of sugar-free instant pistachio pudding mix
- One can of pineapple tidbits
- 1/2 cup of chopped pecans
- 2 cups of heavy whipping cream
If you must, you can add marshmallows, but that defeats the purpose of making it less sugary.

How To Make Watergate Salad
After you gather your ingredients, you will want to put the packages of pudding and heavy whipping cream in a bowl and mix them until they resemble whipped cream.

Now add your pineapple and pecans and slowly mix them until they are well blended.

Put it in a serving bowl in the fridge until it’s time to eat.

That’s it! It’s that simple to make. If you make this for a crowd, remember to double or triple the recipe.
